Storm Brian Forces Cancellation of October Festival
It’s impossible to control the weather and with outside events, such as the Alcester Food Festival, dramatic weather can have an impact. So it was when Storm Brian gave us no option other than to cancel the 21st October Food Festival.
As responsible event organisers we have a duty of care to our visitors and stallholders alike and after consulting the Met Office, our insurance company and the market stall and marquee providers we had to take the difficult decision to cancel. In the event, it was the right decision and the fact that we made it two days beforehand gave enough warning to our exhibitors to allow them to avoid the extra costs of cooking, baking and purchasing stock for the Festival.
The media was very helpful with publicising the cancellation, both on-line and on local radio, which resulted in very few people turning up in Alcester on the day. Those that did were met by Alcester Food Festival organisers in our hi-viz jackets and most were happy to stay and take advantage of our wonderful independent shops, cafes and pubs and vowed to return for the May 2018 Festival.
We had superb support from our stallholders, who all felt we had made the correct decision and we are also grateful to our suppliers, Dudley’s coaches, Eventmen and others who cancelled our bookings without imposing any cancellation fees.
